neither because sunset will surprise everyone and finally win districts and go to states haha idk about that, I'd stick with SW, good reputation, always build a good team. Biggest question I have about them is setting, Andre was the man! If they have someone getting a connection with Dennis and the rest of their hitters I feel like they will be back at states again. But you never know upsets do happen.

Southwest has a strong offense this year mainly because they cant rely on a good set all the time. They're strong in blocking and defense as well. Palmetto is also struggling in the setter position but I'm not sure how they are this year. I'm betting on SW. Sunset was good back in the day but they aren't good enough to make it to states IMO.

Southwest is always good, but first off as long as the referees don't suck which all Referees from Florida are terrible, Southwest has always had a good alumni based program to help that program continue a rich tradition Coach Diaz knows what he is doing, the other district that faces Southwest and or sunset usually chokes, Coral Reef in 06 was a favorite and they choked to Varela who eventually lost, Palmetto last year had a good chance and very well could come out again, Killian is young but has talent, Coral Reef no where near close to touching it, Varela "Easyyyy" its a joke, if they can use good defense they should make a run, to me that District is wide open, but I have to go with Southwest and or Sunset, once I see the teams play more I will have an idea and sure will everyone else, as of now if Palmetto stays healthy and Southwest expect them to see each other once again...But like I said the best referee in Florida is Jeff all the other ones no idea what they are doing...

Yo Guest2008, I am a ref...and me thinks I get more right than I get wrong....
Refs at the highest levels only affect the games if you let them. Remember you have to win by TWO (2). So the refs have to blow TWO calls to give two evenly matched teams a win.
There are some pretty good refs in Florida by the way...
You can't be moaning about referees on the first day of the season....just can't....

when you blow two calls in a fifth set going one teams way and you are only playing to 15 a ref can definately ruin a game. seen it happen time and time again, sorry dave.
yes if a team is clearly better they should still be able to pull it off. but when it is an even match and a ref make some horrible calls it is tough to come back from. and boy do i have some good examples of bad calls. not just judgement calls (obvioulsy there are millions of those), just lack of knowledge and understanding the game
refs can and do blow games. not often, but it does happen

i think he means ref in miami.
dont get me wrong there are some great refs out there...but some of them are still reffin on 2003 rules, and others dont know what theyre doing altogether...up refs calling out of rotation and down refs calling lifts...no sense of what their responsibility is... instead of calling a double when a kid passes with its hands, theyre calling a lift now...
i argued last night with a pretty good official...you can double any first touch...and hes like nope your wrong...all of the sudden the other team starts doubling every first touch and no call. fine, but at least call it both ways...
its not for lack of training either. ref meetings take longer then ever bc of new officials still confused about what to do or call. there are a good 15 refs respected down here, another 25-30 who are learning but are at least holding their own, but there are a good 30-60 who have no business ever calling the sport. we gotta weed those out.
im sorry but until the level of officiating gets better down here and more uniform across the state, florida volleyball will never be up to par with other power house areas like cali.

Do not get me started on referees in Miami, I agree with Mr. Banana, there are some referees that are terrible, I want to be respectful but I don't think you should come out and say that you are a good ref, "me thinks" you mean I think I get more right then wrong, Last time I checked its about the kids and not the referees, so don't gloat about if you are good or not, your job is simple call the game..I am not saying you are like the others which I am not, but there referees in South Florida are sub par, volleyball will not grow if it continues to get calls that are inconsistent...no balance, you have one referee who can barely climb to the top of the stand and another who can't see to save him self...for one you cant make a call and not keep that call consistent thats a huge problem down here, referees can overturn a line judge if the call is not correct, grow some balls and just do it, sorry but I was in highschool line judges always lie (Students) and favor there school...also when a ball is hit out of bounds referees you refer to the line judge behind the block not in front of the block make sure you that gets noted, out of rotation calls, the people who keep track of those sheets do it for a reason, dont refer to them after the game to check if you got the call correct because by then its to late..by the way people have been moaning about the referees in south Florida for who knows how long, its a growing trend on how poor the games are called, granted some want to learn and get the calls right thats more respectful then having a piece of garbage up there thinking hes a good referee and that he knows what hes doing, admit to your faults and learn the game better, dont gloat cause at the end of the day when a team wins districts, regionals, states or a tournament we are not concerned about the referee...its like the referees want to garnish all the lime lights when its about the kids playing the game!

Well, I guess we can *itch and moan about referees and calls on the first day of the season.....
Now what can be done about bad officiating? Well, why don't the folks who are complaining jump in and fix the problem become a referee. It ain't hard look at all the bads ones, if it was hard do you think they would be reffing?
You can make about $80 a night reffing a JV / Varsity match. Good money for a college kid. 2 to 3 matches a week, work between 4 and 8 pm, and a free hotdog and coke to boot....
Now what have teams done to prepare for BAD officiating? Teams practicing blocking, digging, defensive formations, passing, hitting, etc because they all know that those skills are required to win games....but they also know that they are going to get BAD referees and zany calls...or calls that they don't agree with (that may just be right)....how do teams prepare and overcome those situations....
All I can say folks is the ULTIMATE winner has thought about these situations and come up with a scheme or a game plan to not only mitigate BAD REFEREEs but to take ADVANTAGE of it ....
With respect to South Florida officials, I know bunches in Palm Beach me thinks they have a good crew there. Ft. Lauderdale seen a couple of good ones from there but know very few, Miami area seen a couple of good ones but know very few. I am from Orlando and know bunches of the college and club refs but in high school we don't travel out of area that much. But I would also not berate a fellow official on this message board, well I would try not to but if it were my kid or team...MR. REFEREE LOOK OUT!!! fair warning...
have a good season guys...but lets *itch and moan about the refs after the first week not the first night...there is too much playing to be done BY THE KIDs before we concern ourselves with the adults in the game....
yep got caught by my own do not say word list...funny

changed the rules down here. lots of former high school/college players started doing it to improve the level and make some extra cash but now its not worth it because in an effort to get more people working now one set of officials comes in for jv and a new set for varsity.
but daves right...teach ur kids to play the right way and refs shouldnt be a factor. one or two points however big or momentum changing they may be, do not compare to all the dumb errors that the players make to put them in a position for the ref to become a factor.
