LH, you date your self KIDDO
The best hitter was a Cuban kid called Osvaldo. Can't remember his name. That was back in the early to mid 90s.
Setter Nathan Byrd was Seminole County Player of the year in 93 I believe.
LH has a very impressive history during the Christy Howard Scott years. She was the best boy's coach around during that time.
But the two I just mentioned could / should make any of the all time Lake Howell teams.

Wow, nobody has posted on this thread in a while. Dave, none of us were around then haha. Since the majority of us weren't around Florida Volleyball then (or around in general), I just made it an all-sanctioned list dating back to the first actual Florida Boy's Volleyball High School State Championship season.

LH
Christy Scott was great. Everyone had a crush on her back in the day. Craig Doyle gets my vote for best OH. Late 80's early 90's. Not real tall but could crush the ball inside the 10' line consistently. He was a beast on the beach court next to the Hooters on 436.
LH also had a tall kid graduated in 89 that played professionally in California and Hawaii. Name escapes me. Monster on the beach!

Yo Nick-o
Well the thread looked like it was dead but LH posted and I responded. Sorry if I dug up a few skeletons here.
To LH, the kid who may have played professionally might be Ronnie Jenkins. Or I may have his name confused with his father. But there was a Jenkins kid playing at that time on the beach and was making some head way. Do not know what became of him though.

You got me feeling old!!! Ronnie Jenkins is his name. Craig and Ronnie were partners for several years after high school. However he was a terrible indoor player. By far Lake howell and Lake mary have put out the most tallent over the years from CF.

Interesting discussion Darter.
I agree with you that Lake Mary has been the showcase program in Central Florida since the inception of boy's volleyball. Even in their "worst" years they were still formible.
Top players coming out of LM being Jeremy and Darryl Dilmore, Adam & Jason Sewell, Will Lypscomb, Jason Hawkins, Robbie Rowe and a couple of kids in the early 2000s I can't remember their name.
Lake Howell & University I think are the on the next step with respect to overall program results over the years. The talent from University has now been split between Timber Creek & University but University has produced some formible talent over the years. Team success for the most part was always put on hold by the Lake Mary teams.
Next tier of schools I would say are Bishop Moore, Oviedo, & Dr. Phillips.
Not sure what level I put Timber Creek as they are a newer school. Probably put them with Lake Howell & University, since they have been the flag bearers for Central Florida for the first few years of the state tournament.
And of course it is always necessary to mention the State Champion Lyman team. A solid team that made a strong run at the end of the season and won states.
Of course this will now start the old, discussion that Lyman lucked in to it that the real state championship was the semi final between SW Miami & Northeast etc etc etc. Again, after all the would'a should'a , could'a Lyman played the match it won it and has the trophy in the trophy case.
All the rest is just good cannon fodder for the message board.

Dave,
Do you mean Flag Bearers as in hosting the State Tournament or as in representing Central Florida in the State Tournament?

Nick,
By FLAG BEARERS they (Timber Creek) were always considered Central Florida's top team since the inception of the State Tournament.
Though they have never did well at the State tourney. Have they won a match once they reach the final 8? Not sure.
I know that Cypress Creek, Bishop Moore & Lyman all had better finishes at the state tournament during the same time periods Timber Creek went.
But to Timber Creek's credit I thought there first round loss to Cardinal Gibbons in 2005(?) was one of the best games of high school volleyball I have ever seen. Two teams most considered tops in the state meeting in the first round of the tourney.
TC takes it to the 5th set has a 12-7 leads gets a horrendous line call go against them and falls apart. But to Cardinal Gibbon's credit they finished the season UNDEFEATED and state champions. They took advantage or their opportunities and made them count. The line call was only one point with TC still have a 4 point lead.
Nick I also know that Bishop Moore took Cardinal Gibbons to 5 the next day at the same tourney. Bishop Moore could have easily won in 4 but were never dominant in the 5th game is I remember correctly. Also this was coming off the BIG WIN vs Timber Creek the night before.
The bracketing that year prevented the usual south Florida vs Central Florida showdown in the state final. The top three teams in the tourney all played in the first 2 rounds.

I guess so. I never watched that game but I just remember hearing that Gibbons won in 5 and we would be playing them the next day. All I know is that whoever came out of that side of the bracket (whether it have been TC, BM, or Gibbons), was going to be crowned State champions.

I would still add a few names to Lake Mary's list. Chris Davidson (Princeton) finished his college senior season 2nd in blocks in NCAA, Tim Spencer (Long Beach) College All American, Jason Mow (Florida) IMO one of if not the best setter to ever come from central Florida, Jason Keeler (Florida) is now the head women's coach at Northwestern, Billy Chenoweth - Was not the strongest high school indoor player however he is considered to be the current top beach player from central Florida and finished 2nd in nationals last year in the dig the beach tour. From Lake Howell i would add Mike Sandaman (Eaststrougsberg). From Oviedo Definitely Steve Noll - IMO the most skilled player of all, Great hands and the best jump serve on the planet!!!!

This is the second person that posted as LH. Sorry to the original LH didn't mean to steal your name or post on your behalf. Yeah it was Jenkins, I believe an absolutely nasty player in the sand, Craig could play anywhere. Would love to know if those guys are in town. Although I heard rumor that Craig had an unfortunate accident some years ago and passed away. The old Winter Springs asst. coach Chris Storms should know. He is an ex-Silverhawk player.

Hey Darter, yeah I forgot about a lot of these guys. Mau was playing when I first got into officiating so I did not see him much. The rest of the guys I do not remember by name but would probably recognize them in some old photos. But yes I do beleive the GOLDEN ERA in Central Florida's Boy's volleyball was the early and mid 90s and the Lake Mary VolleyFest was the STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS in Central Florida. By Golden Era I mean that you had some dominant teams but there were many competitive teams. I believe there was a resurgence in Central Florida boy's volleyball with the claass of 2007. Where you had several really strong teams in Timber Creek, Bishop Moore, Dr. Phillips, Lake Mary, & Winter Springs.
