ben is the best middle this year out of all of the ones i have seen. and yes i have seen dejager, balestri, fred, and all of them. he is the most consistent and has the best all around game. those are the facts.

No, that's your opinion. You haven't seen all of them since the season ended. Kids change. And we don't know what prejudices you bring to your opinion. So don't proclaim your opinion to be fact. My opinion is that both dejager and fred are better than Ben. We'll see when the season starts. And CJ did better than them all and he is an outside who was put into the middle for one season.

This is the problem. Nobody knows what it takes or what characteristics are needed to be a good , or in this situation the best, middle. It's funny how someone thinks Ben is the best middle and claims that it is a fact. The position is called Middle BLOCKER. Not middle HITTER. So for all of you who think pounding a 1 ball straight down or hitting somebody is a top quality of a great middle, it is not. There are two very important things that a middle must do that you idiots don't think is "flashy" so your opinions are skewed. These two things are CLOSING the block (whether they block the ball or not as long as they take up the court space they are supposed to and prevent any holes then they are doing a fine job) and DRAWING the opposing middle BLOCKER. This is done by BEING ON TIME, something very few, if any, middles in the state of Florida even do. It's about being in the air when the ball leaves the setter's hands so the opposing middle has no choice but to stay with you. This opens up things for the outsides and opposite giving them 1 on 1s. Hitting the ball straight down is not the best thing for a middle to do. If he hits in straight down the middle, he will most likely be blocked. And if he hits it around 10 footline on either side of the block....guess what, thats where right and left backs' base is. A good middle is on time, draws the middle, and generates kills by hitting deep corners forcing the defense to cheat back opening up the middle of the court for them and everyone else. Someone made a comment that Mikee doesn't pound the ball, therefore Mikee is not the best middle. That's BS. Mikee turns around the block, Mikee hits the open court, Mikee has swagger and is a huge presence on the court whether he is set or not. I think Mikee is the best middle. Ben is athletic and is no slouch himself. Someone also commented on Ben's jumpserve. Correction, it is rather easy.

Correction, it is rather easy. you obviously dont like ben and are a fan of BM. mikee turns the ball evr.single.time. he is very slow. ben has a GREATTTT block and easilyy pulls the middle everytime. your obviously just a hter on ben. so stop with the bias yourself dumbass

mikee, ben, balestri, and fred all are great middles and im sure more that i dont even know of. all have their weak spots, as we can see from the multiple bias posts, but that doesnt make one automatically better than the other. im sure all are working hard right now to better themselves, notice how they're not talking, so nobody knows who is better than who. just wait until season and let their games do the talking instead of people talking for them.

I have long said that Middles have the hardest/toughest position to play on the court. This is especially true now that they are responsible for the success of the defense and the tone of the offense. It is almost impossible to pick who is a better player, many people play better/worse depending on who they have around them, the teams passing percentage and setter have a huge part in middles attack success rate, etc. I would argue that to "draw the other teams middle blocker," who have to be a great hitter. In addition, the setter is the person who is supposed to run his offense in such a way that opens up one on one opportunities, of course, this is much easier with a middle that hits very well, but the setter is ultimately the one who makes that choice.

I agree. Even though a lot of talk (and I mean A LOT) is on who is the best Middle or Hitter, the main position is the Setter. He runs the offense and is really the "quarterback" of the team. You could have the best Middle and outside but without a good Setter they would only be average. Who are the best Setters?
