I am going to college soon and hopefully will playing some college ball. However, I see some "trends" developing in florida with clubs. The first "trend" is the competitiveness Florida is becoming in the country. This is obvious the past few years with OBV in East Coast, MVA in last years Nationals and how OG teams did. Also the future looks bright with OBV-18s and OBV-17s, Sons-17 and Tampa-17s. This is a great "trend". However, there is another "Trend" that is occurring. The reduction in the number of clubs in Florida. MVA had one team that stopped, The Sons only have a small 17 year old team that will be done next year, Tampa only has 1 team that will also be done next year, and I believe the Miami Matadors only have 1 team too. It looks like Florida will only be a 2 or 3-club state. OBV in the South and OG & Longwood in the north. That is it. It is obvious that OBV will be a better club, pulling talent from Miami through the palm beach while the talent in Orlando will be split among 2 clubs. At least in the North you have competition and choices. Unfortunately in the South you will not have this. I am not bashing OBV, not at all, I am only saying the lack of teams and choices is not the best situation.

Maybe everyone being on the same 2 or 3 teams is why Florida teams are doing better. Rather than having all the talent dispersed into 5 or 6 teams.....

Ultimately you want more clubs to open. When they do, more kids will wind up playing. On the girls side, there weren't nearly as many clubs as there was before. Girls talent has grown and that is because of the number of girls that are playing club now and because of how many clubs girls are out there. The same needs to happen with the boys, but it is doubtful it ever will. Basketball, football and baseball are the major sports boys play. High school Boys Volleyball is only available in South Florida, Orlando and Tampa. Middle School volleyball is now being taken away in South Florida. Boys club come and go. A lot of clubs existed in order for someone's son to play. Until more boys make the financial and time committment to playing club, Florida will continue to be where they are.

it is good that there only a couple clubs for guys. this is good because the teams will be successful at the national level like obv 18s is. if there are too many clubs, then the best players will not be playing together. look at the girls club volleyball. there are way too many clubs. they may do all right in florida, but when they go play the big national tournaments, there are only a couple teams who do well. south florida especially has way too many clubs. if you were to take all the best players and put them on a team at each age level, you would see teams doing so much better at national tournaments. all the lesser quality players could make up the 2nd and 3rd teams for the club and still do somewhat well at the national level. for boys, it is best to keep the number of clubs low so that the players will gain the most exposure to college coaches because the guys will be doing well at big tournaments around the country. college coaches don't want to watch crappy teams playing in the flight levels at tournaments. they want to see gold level players. but we all know the region wants more clubs because that is more money in their pockets. they pride themselves on having so many girls clubs, but they are really hurting the top girls' chances of being picked up by a school at the national tournaments because the girl's team is not successful. how many college coaches do you see watching bronze level matches? typically none.

Nope, you have a good point in that there is no dilution of talent. But if you had more clubs that would mean more players which in itself would mean more better players.
The more you play the better you get. I tend to think that more in numbers is better. The more numbers you have the better athletes will play your sport. So the sport will become more competitive.
I will go with the mantra BIGGER is BETTER. And with respect to the girls teams, the LARGER CLUBS members wise tend to have the BETTER ELITE teams.
This is because these teams can practice at a high level every day not just compete once a week at a high level.
