I am the coach for Douglas. I have stayed quite while reading some of the wonderful comments made about me, my kids and my A.D. I appreciate the supporters out there, for the people who are disrespectful and full of spite I will pray for you. I believe that being disrespectful toward people is totally uncalled for and if this is how parents are acting then what kind of lessons are we teaching our kids. If you do not like what is happening remove yourself from the situation if you cannot make it better and then move forward with your life. If you have an issue with Douglas then I hope to see you on the court so that we can beat you and shake your hand at the end of the game.
I am not here to defend myself; however my boy's are a different story. First for the attitude issue. I have a group of boy's who are talented, proud, confident, and strong willed as am I. We all enjoy our sport and like to have fun. I have coached my boy's to act like a family, I am apart of this family and sometimes families do get mad at one another this is not an excuse but it is how it works. My boy's are intelligent kids who I give a lot of respect to for what they do everyday. Yes there will be flare ups because I do not give my kids very much room to move. I push my kids in every way possible so that we can achieve our goals. Sometime this will bring about negative reactions but we grow from each lesson. The fire these boy's show is what pulled me into wanting to coach these boy's. They are a special group of young men learning how to be hungry to play, and the best they can be. I am proud to be their coach. As for the lineup and who plays what position I don't believe anyone can argue what has been working pretty well this year. I have a team made up of one Senior, a few Juniors and Sophomores even a Freshman in the starting lineup. Of course it still has its kinks to be worked out. So there have been matches that we have lost due to falling short of our standard because we are still learning what we need to do. The tournaments we have been invited to and participated in have been wonderful opportunities for us to see our weaknesses and fix them.
To the teams that have beaten us thank you for making us stronger by showing us our weaknesses. We look forward to seeing you again. Good Luck with the rest of your season and post season games!
As far as the maturity level this is another reason that I came to coach at Douglas. I love kids who can have fun and enjoy themselves while playing volleyball. Taking yourself too seriously is not how you enjoy Volleyball or life. Volleyball is a fun, fast, passionate, and intelligent sport. If the kids do not enjoy playing any sport then why are they playing it?
When we go through High School there are enough pressures, then college, and real life...where does enjoyment come from? How do we deal with pressure? Where did we learn to deal with pressure?
If we are called immature for how we play and having fun while playing then we will remain immature. So for maturity at the cost of love and enjoyment who needs it?
For the coach who stepped up and supported me; I greatly appreciate it. You run a very solid team and tournament. I am glad to have met you and I would love to play you guys again with my boy's. I hope to see you at the state tournament being held here at Douglas!
As far as having "Big Red" Shane serve he has one of the best serves on my team anyone can see this by looking at his stats. He is smart in choosing where to serve and what serve to use. I am also very comfortable with him playing middle back defense. Keep stepping it up Big Red. Congratulations again on making the A2 National Volleyball Team as a sophomore!
It may look to some that we have no concentration but that is what will happen when you are at ease with the sport you are playing...you make it look easy.
As for #11 Jay being the only one playing defense I would once again refer to the numbers. Jay has quick feet and great hand-eye coordination for fast ball reaction but he is not the only one who can play defense. He is one of my beach volleyball players so he is used to covering an entire half of a court so he does get his hands on a lot of passes. Good job Jay! Keep it up kiddo!!
I could continue on down the line with each and everyone of my players but I do not need to because we know our game.
Yes we do have some issues to work on but so does every team. I have stood behind each one of my players and will continue to do so. I took over the team last year and did turn the group of boy's into a family who surprised everyone to win our District Championship. We are a team to watch out for. If you really have been following us this season you would see that our team has grown in leaps and bounds since the beginning and we are starting to put it all together. My boy's have worked hard and are not moving from the goal that we set last year.
As for my A.D. he is extremely involved in our sport of volleyball here at Douglas. He is willing to do whatever it takes to get what we need for our program. He is the hardest working A.D. that I know and I have the utmost respect for him and all he does. I would not want any other A.D., I know that there are some other amazing A.D.'s out there but I could not be happier with mine!
This reply is for my boy's, not for defending anything we do. I cannot help that the only place some teams can try to beat us is on blogs, but it cannot be argued that when we do decide to play we are a hard team to beat. Lets let all of the negativity go, let the boy's play ball, and teach our kids valuable life lessons.
Good Luck to all teams! Thank you everyone for the attention on Douglas we appreciated it. See you at the State Tournament!

We've been watching Douglas all season and are amazed at their 19-5 record. They sure seem like winners with an incredible coach who is an extremely motivating individual and a great role model for the kids. Way to go Coach and the entire Douglas team -- you all make us proud!
