As we enter the summer club season, what are your thoughts on the upcoming tournaments and the best teams at each age group? Not too sure about the younger team except for I know that the OBV 15s Quiksilver team is very good with some great pin hitters that could develop into some of the best florida has ever seen. In the 17s Age group the Orlando Gold Black team is by far the best team just because of how stacked their team is. Although they have all the weapons, they don't seem to have good team chemistry and lack a leader on the floor. In 18s without question OBV Quiksilver is the best team and maybe one of the best club teams florida has ever seen. They have a real shot at getting to the final at nationals this year. Coming in second would be that second team for OBV. They also have plenty of weapons to choose from and are the only team to have a bid in the florida region along with the Quiksilver team. They lack coaching but the players seem to get it done. the third best team is probably JJVA but there is a huge drop off talent wise although coach Rob holley has done amazing things with this group of boys without high school volleyball. In 18s OBV Quiksilver will win regionals, 18 Waves will win AAU's due to the fact that Quiksilver will be in California, and Quiksilver will place top 5 at nationals and Waves will place top 15. Those are just my thoughts, feel free to comment.

2 weeks ago OBV 17 Quiksilver beat OG 17 Black at Lake Mary HS and both earned bids from Richmond this past weekend. 18s is owned by OBV, easily the two best teams in the state. OBV 15 Quiksilver also earned a bid to the open division this weekend, some great young players on that team. OBV 14 Quiksilver won the Daytona qualifier earlier in the year, but declined the bid which trickled down to OG. Both are about equal talent wise. 16s division is dominated by OBV Quiksilver and Surf teams, 16 Quiksilver was 2 spots from a bid this past weekend in Richmomd.

OBV 15's did not get a bid at East Coast. They won Silver and it didn't trickle down that far!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Voliemiami can care less for its boys. Club provides little to no adult supervision at tournaments. No transportation or accommodations when traveling. Kids are responsible for their own hotel rooms. Most can't afford a room or are not old enough to rent one for the night. They are packed 5 or 6 per room. No real coaching just 6 on 6 playing and horsing around. Club should really stick to its girl teams where they really excel and have a passion for volleyball.

Nearly a clean sweep for OBV this weekend - Taking the Regional Championships in 15's, 16's 17's and 18's. OBV also took 2nd in 16's and the second best team in 18's was also an OBV team, although they had lost in pool play requiring them to play the eventual champs in the semi-finals. Voliemiami did play well, but still no match to OBV Quik (18 & 14 in the finals) and they would have lost to OBV Wave if they played.
One could also argue OBV had the best three teams in the 16's age group as the Quik team lost to OG in pool play requiring them to play Surf (eventual champs) in the quarters and the only team to take them to 3 sets. OG Black is improved with the new players this summer and I'm sure Benson is helping that group too. New OBV Waves Team could be a solid team if they gel together a bit more.
15's OBV Quik had no competition - giving up no more than 16 points in any set this weekend.
17's OBV Quik have caught up and passed OG 17's with wins in past two meetings.
Congrats to 352 for winning 14's division. OG Upset in quarters in Toreros!!

Quiksilver will place top 5 at nationals and Waves will place top 15. Those are just my thoughts, feel free to comment. Quicksilver may make Gold at BJNC, as they should have a good seed if they do well in SoCal. However, no chance that Waves places that high. They have an AES power ranking of 107. They will have a terrible seed coming in, and I don't think they are talented enough to climb out of the bottom half of 18 Open.

I agree 18's Quik will likely make it to gold bracket at Nationals. With that could finish the highest at Nationals for any 18's FL team. I believe the OBV team with Franceschi finished in the top 10 - 12. The 2011 or 2012 Tampa Invaders team also finished in this range as well. The best FL club team would be the 2013 Tampa Invaders team that was disassembled by the JR National team during Nationals. Although this team had a number of out of state players so perhaps they shouldnt be considered in the conversation.
OBV Waves will finish in the 19 - 24 range. Not cutting them down, just a lot of very good teams in that top 15.
It will be interesting who finishes higher in the 17's division. OBV will have an opportunity to increase their seed considerably in So Cal this weekend. OG was the big favorite coming out of the HS season, but have not performed to their potential. My guess is OG will either play extremely well (top 11 - 14) at Nationals or it will be a total debacle (20 - 25). I'd say OBV will be in the 14 - 18 range.
Two of the younger FL teams will have a very good chance to win Nationals in the club division. OBV 15's & 352 12's.
Good luck to everyone at AAU's & in So Cal. this weekend. Speaking of AAU's, who seeded the 16's division??? OG top overall seed? Who are you trying to kid? They have improved recently, but 3rd place at regionals doesn't deserve a top seed when 2 other FL team finished in the top 2.

18's Quik ended up 15th in SoCal. That could affect their seed, and does not forecast them to a Gold bracket showing in Columbus. Of course the California teams will have to travel East and play in the morning, so that could help them.

I agree both OBV Quik teams (18's & 17's) who went west this weekend did not help their seeding for Columbus.
15th for the 18's in the SoCal Tourney would project them around 18 - 20 seed in the country at USAV's. I looked at their schedule in SoCal and it was brutal ... PM wave (3 games) on Friday, followed by 4 team AM pool (3 games) AND another 3 team pool (2 games) on Saturday and then AM Silver bracket on Sunday.
The 17's starting 1-2 in SoCal on Friday and finishing 27th means they would project them at the bottom of the open division in Columbus.
AAU's had some interesting twists - OG 17's looked back on track winning the tourney. I loved it when the Vaqueros team celebrated more following their loss then OG did winning the finals. Gotta love those PR's. OG Black was the top team by far not dropping a set and even winning one set 25-2.
A weak 18's division has VoleiMiami winning undefeated. 18's Wave (Called Quik at this tourney) had a poor showing going into USAV's. This could be a long tourney for them if they don't start playing like they did in Chicago or earlier this spring. Coastal 18-2 looked pretty good as well. Who all from Miami is going to Columbus?
16's Division told us that the OBV Surf team is the best team in Florida finishing 3rd, while a Canandian team (Force) was by far the most impressive - beating TVA from Puerto Rico handily in the finals.
OG 15's played well finishing 2nd and beating a previously "unstoppable looking" OBV Quik team in the quarters. It shows you when you have a one-dimensional team the good teams will find a way to beat you - especially when your one-dimension is not the same. Diego obviously was not himself swinging at 60 - 70%, tape on the shoulder, and serves were only 1/2 speed, etc. The rest of the team needed to step up at this critical time - they didn't! I really hope Diego is himself in Columbus.
In the 14's division, its amazing how the 352's unorthodox offense and remarkable back row defense (virtually no blocking) can beat some pretty good teams. I thought when 352 lost to OG Black, OBV Quik and A5 earlier in this tourney, finally the good traditional style teams had figured them out. Apparently I was wrong. Best of luck to them in 12's Club division in Columbus.

OBV 18s will probably earn a middle of the pack seed and will be in silver or bronze come day 4
