The initial 2009 Middle Hitter Pablo Rankings (MHPR) has been published. The MHPR is a mathematical calculation based on the Pablo algorithm which uses opponents schedule strength, match results including number of sets and scores of each set and match location (home, away or neutral). The ranking is designed to predict the winner of the match using the Home Court Advantage (HCA) as part of the predictor. Since the MHPR is a mathematical calculation, it becomes more stable as the season goes on and more data (match results) is available for analysis. Please check out the Pablo FAQ for more details on the calculation. The MHPR is also the only ranking system that compares all Divisions of men’s collegiate volleyball: DI, DII, DIII and NAIA. This works because there is sufficient inter-divisional play allowing comparisons to be made. A special “Thank You” goes out to Pablo who has graciously offered to apply the algorithm to the men’s data on a weekly basis. Middle Hitter just needs to get the match results to Pablo.
