colleges look at height when they want front row players....and yes gage can jump outta the building but for his height he should be playing libero like tanner...but thats just what i think..

"the only reason SOME naia schools are better than d2 teams is because they have more room to throw around money. Im talking about schools like cal baptist. missouri baptist does not fit that category. apples and oranges buddy, apples and oranges. cmon, be real. "
The reason why NAIA teams are good is because they are able to get international players- the rules are a lot more leniant- for instance I played at Columbia College - (program was cancelled) we had 5 players from other countries that were awesome. Traditionally, they are a little bit older late 20's early 30's - most of them had played for their country's national teams. If you check the rosters of the successful NAIA schools, they will be dominated by athletes from other countries. You dont need many scholarships to make a great volleyball team.

Actually height matters A LOT- The average height at the net of our national team is 6-8 + Its not such an issue when attacking, but it is a HUGE issue with blocking. Those guys physically play at such a high level, a shorter guy cant get up high enough in time to take something away from a 6-8 middle who is getting set from a 6-8 setter both of which are jumping and running an attack at about 11 and a half feet off the ground. Thank God they have the libero position for the little guys.

Height is a huge factor in college coaches decisions! at the begining of the year my coach recruited 2 players from california without ever seeing them play. why? because they were 6'6 and 6'7 well the ended up being horrible. I got signed to play libero and actually ended up playing middle the whole season because one ofour guys tore his acl. Not to sound thingyy or anything but after the season was over, i had the least amout of errors and finished second overall on the team in hitting percentage by .02 of a point. I was much more effective than our 6'7 middle, and though i played well this season my coach told me he is starting our 6'6 middle who is absolutly horrible next year because hes "tall" Im only 6'0 and i hate it. All coaches mainly look at is height and in my opinion a team with six 6' fotters who know the game well can compete teams with big guys up front.

very well put 2007poy... i complete agree even though height does matter a lot and it is a huge advantage if you have the right technique and play the game smart you can compete.

yea Ritchie...It is just unfortunate that height is such a huge factor. I remember playing against middles 6'7 and 6'8 and two different rightsides 6'9 and 6'10 form missouri baptist and hope, and as a 6 footer i had just as many or more touches or blocks as i do against shorter middles. It was actually easier, because the setter had to set the ball so high for them it gave me like 10 seconds to get out there and delay my block. lol. In fact the only game i hit negative was against Sacred heart which had another 6'0 middle. Give it up to us short people!
