ok basically, it depends on the type of player you are or want to be to decide what club you want to play for. If you want to go to college and play or get recognized for high performance and all that, sons is the place to play. If you just want to play for fun, get better for high school, and not be that serious, OBV is the place to play.
The sons do alot of traveling, going to california, wisconsin, chicago, pennstate, virginia, if there is an open bid tournament worth going to, they will take a team expose thier players to the west and midwest and continue to get better. For this reason, they have had atleast 1 sons team finish in the gold braket and top 10 in nationals every year they have been around. They want only the players who are going to work hard and want to get better. Ofcourse you have to pay for that, but they also realise it is hard to come up with the money, so they offer fundraising at dolphin, panther, marlins games, concerts and basketball games. Which by working, you can pay for your entire season and get to play for close to free. So it depends on what your looking for.

i think you know lots about the sons but not about gold and obv. both gold and obv go to bid tourneys such as penn state and chicago. some of the states top players are in gold and obv. they all practice hard and play hard and if i recall they also beat sons at tourneys.
and by the way, how many sons seniors have signed? havent seen any on the middle hitter website.

I think at least 10 of the HP camp invitees are from OBV.....and haven't their 18's beaten the sons before? Didn't one of their teams go to Chicago or Penn State? Pretty good for a club that just messes around...

One thing the Sons has is fund raising. During the year the Sons work at Dolphing, Panther and Marlin games to raise money for themselves. In fact, a lot of players pay for most of their tournaments through fundraising. YOU MUST KEEP THIS IN MIND WHEN YOU COMPARE COSTS.

unless they changed their policy along the way, sons does not discount fees for boys joining after hs season. for the past two years that was the policy causing some to go to obv and others just to decide not to play club.
watch for the fine print and make your own choice wisely.

wow that's pretty unreasonable. I mean if you want to join after HS you are paying for 3 or 4 months of stuff that you are not using. Yes Son's is a good program but no wonder so many good players are now going to OBV.

That's an inaccurate statement. The Sons do not charge for months that you haven't been with the club. The registration fee is the same no matter when you join because the registration fee includes the uniforms, practice shirts, certain equpment costs, etc. The monthly training portion of the fee is exactly that, monthly. Join now, pay for the monthly training for May, June & July. You will not be asked to pay for October through April.
Best advise: Don't listen to anything written about any club on this web-site as gospel. Too many posts are self serving propaganda. "My club is better then your club, so come play with us". BS! Each of the three clubs previously mentioned have their own websites with all of the details about costs. You need to cafefully look and compare. (And if you can't find what you need on the website, email or call the club. The contact information is all there on the websites.) Some costs are included in registration fees, some in monthly training fees and some in additional payments should you want certain equipment. No one breaks down their costs exactly the same. However, all three have comparable pricing if you look at everything and compare carefully. And no one includes travel costs in their base price. Those costs are always seperate because not everyone in a club travels. There are players who attend club just for the training.

^ Agree. Also you check out the coaches. If you want to play club your coaches are VERY important. If you are serious about the sport, you would pay a little extra for better coaches. Right?

i don't necesarrily disagree with you but based on the information provided on the Son's web site there is nothing referenced about only paying part of the registration 1,000 fee. On obv's it clearly says 100 per month and then breaks down uniform cost etc.
figure out the location, talk about the club, talk to players and the coaches and make your decision.

I sure hope you are not inferring that the coaching at one club is much better than another. OBV's coach shannon has college mens coaching experience and is coaching hp for the 2nd year. OBVs coach zarate coaches at the college level and is a head coach for hp. sons has dave nichols as a coaching consultant and he coaches at the college level and is a former hp coach. there are high school coaches at both clubs. don't be misled by what you read on this forum. you can pay $2.00 a gallon at one gas station or $2.59 at another. both make your car go. if you are serious about driving, you would still have a pretty easy decision as to where to fill up. I agree that you should check out the facts instead of relying on opinions here.

You need to check out the coaches. Even though Mike and Shannon are very qualified coaches they are not coaching ALL the teams at different age groups. It is impossible and wouldn't do justice to all the teams. Each team at every age group should have their own coach. You need to research the coach at your age group at ALL clubs to make a decision. Some coaches drill the fundamentals while others do not. If you are paying all this money, you should investigate and get more bang for your buck. The best way is to speak to players on each club and ask questions. DO NOT JUST JOIN A CLUB QUICKLY.

there are various factors that should be looked at in joining a club. location and distance to and from practice. dates and times of practices. cost. coaches.
there is no perfect club out there. most are run by people who love the sport and want to advance the sport in the state. they want to win and they want their players to improve their skills in order to meet their goals, whatever the goals may be.
you will find people that love a specific club and those that hate a specific club and those that do not know anything about a specific club but still offer an opinion which is unfounded.
bottom line is PLAY CLUB. whichever one your family decides is best for you, play there. if you look at the top players in each county in the state, the vast majority of them play club and know each other and share the love of the game. if you love the game and want to improve your skills get out and play.
enough of this talk about one club versus another. there are good players and good teams and good coaches at each club. there are rivalries amongst the various clubs. and there are some great matches amongst them as well. rest assured no club is florida is that amazing that it is known across the country by name - such as Adversity, Balboa Bay, Ultimate or St Louis High Performance.
just figure out which one makes sense to your family based on location, cost, coaches and practice dates and times. and get out and play.
