Saw the video last night on the news. The player definitely did this on purpose. The block was way inside and the hitter did not have to turn the ball in this manner. Even when you are trying to tool the block, you aim sort of toward the benches. He clearly did this intentionally.

As a coach I am disgusted that a player would ever do something like this or even think of doing something this disrespectful to the game of volleyball... As a player I am ashamed of his actions and how his teammates can defend him makes me mad, its so blatant that he hit the referee on purpose, nothing was wrong with the set nor the block if anything they gave him alot of line, he went in and completely turned his body and hit the referee square in the face, to defend this kid is a little ridiculous and now that the video is out everyone that has ever played the game knows how obvious it is and what was done, the coaches being fired don't think that was the right move unless they knew what was gonna happen, looking at the video you see Coral Reef react like what just happened and westminster acted like nothing happen, you my friend ruined the game of volleyball in dade-county for a while, now instead of people talking about SW going to states or Columbus going to states, Palmetto and Varela having a cinderella run or even coral park reemerging into the lime light there gonna talk about this hit for the rest of the season, you say how they saved your program from being cut looks like you are right back where it started, last time you guys were any good was in 2005 because you had 2 all-dade-players and one of the best coaches around, but now your program is in jeporady, the intent of the hit can't be anymore obvious, as a player I am disgusted by your actions and for your parents to say the truth will come out, granted shes throwing a pity party but your parents need to just come to terms with the truth, you live with the choice you made, maybe next time you will stop and think about what you want to do..

This kid is a disgrace, how can you do that..sorry way obvious the way he turns his body to hit the ball, basically went out of the way, nothing wrong with the set nor the block, he wasn't going for the tool either...Mommy and Daddy will bail there rich son The referee is acting a little overboard in my opinion but still the kid shouldn't have done what he did, and to defend him and lie is even worse, well at least there is evidence for all to see now!

I would put money that the kid could not do that again if he tried. We played Westminster and I didn't think any of their players had this much ball control! ;D
On a serious note. The kid got what he deserved.

Its funny how people (westminster) keep defending him after its clear he did this with intent... www.wsvn.com/news/articles/local/21004043545932/a. set was good b. blockers gave line c. he turned out of the way to aim directly at her d. reacted like it was no big deal I mean four valid points that there was intent involved, when you look how he went in with his approach he just turned very sharply at the ref and said pow right in the kisser..I can keep going as well...WCS kids do us a favor stop trying to prove it was an accident its clear on the video what he did, "Truth will be served" that parent is retarded for saying that, he doesn't know his son as well as he thinks, It boggles my mind why Coach Car would still defend him after the video went on the air, its hurting him even more with the coaching world..I agree with alot of people, this kid is a disgrace and a piece of trash

okok, I can see him hitting the ball into her in the video but it looks like he is facing the block and then at the last second turning to hit the ball not approaching straight at her and killing the ball dead in her face. looks like if u broke this down to frame by frame it would be a little unclear if he made a last second decision to turn and kill the ref in the face. i dont know if any of us are qualified to judge a man as trash. i am not defending him but i am not willing to condemn him either. punishment has been levied. It seems like the coach knows what he thought he saw and is standing behind that and believes the kid didnt do it deliberately and well that is less than the school did for him as an employee. Not to say that he didnt do it just to say not w maliscious intent and so punish him so it is known that cant happen even by mistake! like spearing in the nfl!

I agree the punishment has been handed down, but don't be ignorant and deny he did not do it on purpose(not directing this at you okok) but if you know volleyball well enough and see the video there was intent, now the way the referee went about everything is a little over board, but if you want to go frame by frame he did it on purpose, its so clear cut in the video, if you know the game well enough its clear he did this on purpose, and look at his reaction after, anyone that hit her in the face would go right away and check on her he turned his back... There was nothing wrong with the block or the set, he went in with a normal approach and he turned right at the ref, maybe maybe the kid wanted to scare her but regardless he hit her in the face lets not be blind here and keep defending him, yes the punishment was handed down so its over but I don't want to hear a pity party that his life is runied because if no charges were made or if they are dropped there not on his record so he can still go to med school after mom and dad pay for him to get the pre-med degree and assuming he passes the test for med school blah blah..but everyone with a high vball iq knows he did this on purpose..

thats a good analogy, spearing in the nfl. nobody calls those guys trash on purpose or not, If u do it u get penalized. mistake or not. If a ref gets run over its part of the game. i hope she is ok though and he did get punished so I am not judging just lets get on w boys volleyball and forget this mess.

if you're man enough to smack someone in the face, be man enough to say you did it, don't have pancakes and butter, waffles and syrup, and all the other morning meals run to your defense. Americans are the most forgiving people that exist, but to be forgiven you've got to say your sorry and mean it.
there are five pages on this not because the he hit a ref in the face, it's because everyone involved denied it, lied about it, covered it up and did not say Sorry, I really messed up.

What country do you live in? America is the least forgiving country, confess to anything and you get sued out the ass for something as stupid as this whole situation. Had the player done it intentionally and said "Yeah, my bad" he'd currently be facing expulsion and charges of battery and assault, and he could kiss his college scholarship goodbye. The woman is not looking for justice, she is looking for money. He DID apologize to her and she wouldn't have it. You guys are acting like the 5 seconds of poor quality video is the be all end all of this situation. Police and state attorneys have reviewed the case over and over and determined there was no intent, and have laughed at the absurdity of this whole situation. The video is about as conclusive as Big Foot footage. People like me come to his defense because people like you don't know anything about the situation and proceed to label him as a "disgrace" to volleyball.

Ok, we all have seen the video. We all have made up our minds as to whether he did do it or not. The powers that be that need to look in to have looked in to it and made their decision.
Time for the rest of us to concentrate on playing the game on the court. Not sure we will achieve anything by bashing it out on this forum.
A lot of unfortunate things have happen to many folks because of this incident time to get past it and move on.

Hey pancakes usually I agree with you but what you said that "Police and state attorneys have reviewed the case over and over and determined there was no intent" is wrong. What they SAID was we can not "prove" intent. Unless the kid said to another player or coach "watch this I'm going to nail her" or to the setter "put the ball outside so I can hit her" there can be no proof of INTENT.
Did he do it? Yes Did he deserve to get kicked off the team? Yes Did he deserve to be suspended from school? No
